The story so far

One thing after another by Sam Jacob Studio

This exhibition was about digital the transformation of an object - a common garden shed- into the digital realm, then back to physical, whilst changing the scale of the object itself. It also gave an insight in the changes that occurred during the transformation and allowed these to be part of the creative process.

Here is an image of a 3D printed miniature of a common garden shed- placed within the original.

The shed, bought via ebay, was scanned, increased in scale and the resulting files were used to recreate a facsimile ( but not copy) of the original construction and and textures using Sto's own CNCed material Verolith. This was then used to enclose the original.

The internal surfaces were also clad with Sto's rain screen-cladding system StoVentec glass which was mirrored to create a further set of alarming but fascinating "copies" of the original.

It was important to Sam and his team not to create an exact copy of the original wood texture. This image of the final surface gives a interesting insight into what happens when the resolution and scale of an object are considered.
